ABOUT US
Empowering Texans Through Health, Policy & Civic Education
We are a Texas-based organization founded by medical students and healthcare professionals who believe that better health outcomes depend not only on medical care, but also on informed public policy and engaged communities.
WHY WE EXIST
Health policy is public health.
Our mission is to educate Texans about health-related public policy and empower them to make their voices heard by their elected representatives.
From the cost and accessibility of essential medications to traffic and roadway safety and access to lifesaving resources such as naloxone, public policy decisions can have a direct impact on the health, safety, and quality of life of Texans.
We work to make these issues easier to understand by providing accessible, evidence-informed educational resources about proposed and existing policies. We help Texans understand how government decisions can affect their communities and provide practical information about how they can contact their state and federal representatives, share their concerns, and participate in the democratic process.
WHAT WE CARE ABOUT
Five areas. One mission.
Affordable Healthcare & Medications
Raising awareness about policies that may improve access to essential medications, including affordable diabetes treatment.
Road & Traffic Safety
Educating communities about policies designed to reduce speeding, prevent crashes, and make Texas roads safer.
Lifesaving Medications
Increasing awareness about the importance of access to naloxone and other emergency resources.
Health Equity & Access
Highlighting policies that can help Texans obtain the healthcare and resources they need.
Civic Engagement
Teaching Texans how to research legislation, understand policymaking, and communicate effectively with representatives.
OUR APPROACH
Inform, don't instruct.
We believe Texans deserve understandable, trustworthy information about the policies that affect their health and communities.
Our perspective is informed by our experiences in healthcare and medical education, while our work is centered on evidence, education, and the wellbeing of Texas communities.
OUR STANDARDS
Trust starts with transparency.
We link readers to legislation, government documents and original research whenever possible.
We explain technical terms without assuming a policy or medical background.
Policy pages show when information was last reviewed.
Material errors should be clearly corrected and documented.
OUR VISION
We envision a Texas where people understand how public policy affects their health, feel confident engaging with their government, and have a meaningful voice in shaping policies that promote safer, healthier communities.
Better-informed Texans. Stronger communities. Healthier Texas.
