SOURCES & METHODOLOGY

Trust starts with showing our work.

Texas Health Policy Watch is designed to help readers distinguish what a law says, what evidence shows, what remains uncertain, and where to find the underlying source.

OUR METHOD

Five questions guide every policy explainer.

01

What does the law say?

We begin with legislation, statutes, regulations and official government materials when available.

02

What does the evidence show?

We look for peer-reviewed research, government data and other credible primary or high-quality secondary sources.

03

What is being proposed?

Proposals are described as proposals. We distinguish introduced language from enacted law.

04

Who may be affected?

We identify relevant populations, systems and communities without assuming that every effect is the same.

05

What can Texans do?

We point readers toward official legislative tools and representative information without telling them what position to take.

EDITORIAL PRACTICES

Clear about limits, updates and corrections.

Dates matter. Policy pages include a review date so readers can tell when information was last checked.

Status matters. A bill that was introduced is not described as current law unless it became law. Legislative status is linked to official Texas Legislature Online records whenever possible.

Corrections matter. If a material factual error is identified, it should be corrected clearly rather than silently changed.

Independence matters. The site does not endorse political parties or candidates. Educational descriptions should not be read as organizational endorsements.
